Our teachers have initiated a meaningful curriculum that will develop your child’s skills and attitudes for life-long learning.  We have a strong focus on the areas of literacy, numeracy, science and physical education and through these subjects your child learns how to take on responsibility, be independent, and develop meaningful and reciprocal relationships with others.

We start the day with the whole centre joining together for a karakia, twice a week school visits to Russell St School across the road, weekly visits to the resthome, whole centre singing group on a Friday, termly family events including Matariki celebrations, Christmas party and Cultural evening. Graduation ceremonies for our children going to school.

We are close to the hospital, our learning priorities are around inclusion and whanaungatanga, our centre vision is Ready For School, Ready For Life, our philosophy is based around the te ao Maori values of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and aroha.

Our Team

We are a passionate team, dedicated to our BestStart Russell Street family. Many of our teachers have been here for many years and we pride ourselves on a low staff turnover. Each teacher brings their own unique skills to the table and with regular professional development and learning from one another we are consistently upskilling to provide the best possible care and education to our BestStart Russell Street family.

Each room is uniquely focused on the age and stage of each child within the room. Our environments are aimed at encouraging and extending children’s learning, development and current interests.
