At BestStart East Tamaki, we believe in providing meaningful learning experiences that help prepare our tamariki for the world around them. Recently, we were delighted to welcome the St John in Schools programme into our Preschool Room for an engaging and educational visit focused on health, safety, and emergency response.

Our tamariki had a fantastic time learning from Sue, who introduced important concepts in a fun, age-appropriate, and interactive way. Through storytelling and hands-on activities, the children learned about basic first aid, how to recognise an emergency, and the importance of calling 111 when help is needed. These valuable lessons helped build their understanding of how they can stay safe and seek assistance in different situations.

One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity for children to participate in role-play scenarios. The tamariki eagerly took turns acting as paramedics, responding to pretend accidents and caring for others. This imaginative play encouraged problem-solving, empathy, communication, and confidence while reinforcing the emergency response skills they had learned.

The excitement continued as the children explored the mini ambulance and posed for photos, creating lasting memories from this special experience. Seeing their enthusiasm and curiosity was a wonderful reminder of how powerful hands-on learning can be.

Experiences like these support our commitment to developing capable, confident learners who are equipped with practical life skills. We extend our sincere thanks to Sue and the St John in Schools team for sharing their knowledge and inspiring our tamariki.

It was a memorable and enriching experience that our children will be talking about for a long time to come.
