Today we held a Teddy Bears Picnic to raise funds for the annual Plunket Appeal. The kaiako (teachers) did lots of baking and organised lots of yummy food to share, along with some yummy donated cupcakes. Lots of excited tamariki (children) arrived at preschool with their favourite Teddy Bears or soft toys, which made for lots of added discussions and pretend play throughout the day. During the morning the tamariki had the opportunity to ice and decorate some biscuits with blue icing for Plunket which they enjoyed eating during the picnic. The excitement ramped up as we began to set up and get ready for our parents and whānau to arrive for our afternoon tea picnic. Together we read the book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” and to the surprise of the tamariki out came Blue Bear right on cue. This sure was a highlight for many of the tamariki as they excitedly gave cuddles, high fives and waved to Blue Bear. After saying goodbye to Blue Bear we sat down together and enjoyed some yummy kai before having a play alongside our parents and whānau.
