Our worm farm was looking a little sad, so one of our teachers Moira decided to give it a little revamp. One of our whānau kindly brought in some worms from their own worm farm to give us a little head start.

The worms are thriving and have become a huge part of our environment. There have been discussions on what the worms like to eat, and what they don’t like to eat, how we can look after them and how often we should be feeding them.

As you know food preparation in Montessori is a key part of our morning routine, ensuring there is fruit available to the tamariki for kai.

We have extended our food preparation to also preparing food for the worms. Lila so carefully cut the banana for morning tea, and then sourced a scissor so she could cut the banana skin so we could feed the worms.

It is such an exciting time for the tamariki and some days the worms pop up to say hello and that adds even more of an excitement.

It really is the perfect time to also check in on our native plants we planted back in June! Juniper discovered one morning that our Kowhai tree is beginning to flower – what an exciting time!!!
