During the school holidays, BestStart centres hold a holiday programme with a different theme each day, filled with play-based learning experiences.
A highlight of the holiday programme at BestStart Pipiwai Rd this term was the teddy bears’ picnic. Tamariki brought along a special teddy or soft toy from home, while kaiako set up provocations based on the day’s theme to spark curiosity and engagement.
The centre came together for a special story time outdoors in the sunshine, sharing “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” with their teddies, followed by music and movement activities. Everyone then enjoyed a picnic lunch outside.
Holiday programmes encourage creativity through activities such as arts and crafts, science experiments, and group play. They foster creative thinking, problem-solving skills, social and emotional growth, and resilience.
For parents, these programmes also provide a safe, reliable childcare option during school breaks, ensuring tamariki continue to learn and thrive in a fun and supportive environment.
