On Friday night, we held our Term 3 Parents’ Hui!
Our original plan was to invite a primary school teacher to share about the transition to school and the school curriculum, but unfortunately, she couldn’t join us as her child was unwell.
After discussing as a team, we decided to carry on with our Hui and share directly with our wonderful whānau. We talked about our Kindy curriculum, including what we teach during mat times such as literacy, numeracy, health and safety, social competence, emotional regulation, and hygiene practices.
We also shared about our assessment practices, showing examples of children’s learning stories, individual learning plans, literacy and numeracy folders, and how tamariki learn through a wide range of activities such as crafts, painting, and more.
Another important focus of our discussion was how parents can support routines at home, ensuring consistency with what tamariki are used to at kindy. We talked about building independence skills, such as children putting away their own belongings, tidying up toys, and packing their own lunchboxes.
The feedback from whānau was very positive. They found the Hui informative, practical, and felt it opened their horizons, giving them a clearer understanding of our kindy curriculum and daily routines.
Big thank you to all our parents who joined us. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, share, and strengthen our partnership in supporting tamariki’s learning and development
