Celebrate culture and connection at our centre. During Tongan Language Week, our learners, kaiako, and community came together to explore Tongan traditions, deepen cultural understanding, and honour the rich diversity that makes our centre a welcoming place for all.
On 20 August 2025, our centre proudly celebrated Tongan Language Week, and it was an amazing experience for our learners, kaiako, and wider community.
We were grateful to welcome special guests from the Tongan Methodist Church Glen Innes, who visited our centre to share language, dance, and traditions. Their performance added richness and authenticity to our celebration.
The children had a wonderful time exploring Tongan culture, songs, and traditions. They learned new words, dances, and stories that helped them appreciate how special and unique every culture is. It was a meaningful way to promote inclusivity, understanding, and respect for others.
For our kaiako, this was an opportunity to grow in cultural understanding and appreciation. By learning alongside the children, we deepened our respect for the Tongan community and celebrated the diversity within our centre.
The celebration also brought our community closer together. In a diverse city like Auckland, it was heart-warming to see whānau and friends from all backgrounds join in. Tongan Language Week reminded us that when we come together to honour our differences, we strengthen our connections and create a warm, inclusive environment for all.
