Transitions in Infant House
Transitions are an essential part of our daily lives in Infant House. We have new pēpi (babies) transitioning into our classroom, two-year-old tamariki (children) transitioning into the Casa classroom amongst the numerous other transitions within our room.
We have tamariki learning to walk, crawl, feed themselves, move from a cot to a stretcher, growing their self-help and practical life skills as well as growing their emerging language.
The wonderful transition of learning to communicate/mana reo. Starting with cries, sounds, gaze, pointing and eventually kupu/words. Taking an interest in pukapuka, choosing pukapuka to sit and look at or asking kaiako (teachers) to read them. Waiata/songs are a valuable tool when supporting pēpi and tamariki who are growing their emerging mana reo. Kaiako have their favourites as do our ākonga.
All are learning new skills as they transition to the next stage of their development.
BestStart Montessori The Gardens' Philosophy says:
Our goal is to nurture and celebrate each child’s natural desire for knowledge and understanding and inspire passion for lifelong learning.
Respect is the foundation of the Montessori method, and we value this through encouraging children to learn respect for oneself, each other, and the environment. As teachers we respect that each child has the ability to be leaders in their own learning and we follow their lead.
