At BestStart Barrington we are so lucky to have some many amazing places close by in walking distance, so this month we went for a walk to our local park to find acorns. Celebrating children’s culture is something that is really important at BestStart Barrington, so we are using these acorns to make brown dye for our tapa cloth. In the Pacific Islands, tree bark is used to dye the tapa cloth, so we wanted to try to make some natural dye for ourselves.

While out in the community the children learn so many amazing skills. They are able to make links from home, begin to understand the world around them and road safety skills. Kaiako are able to demonstrate, practice and explain to the children why we look both ways before crossing, how important it is to hold hands and listening to what is around them. How lucky are we to be able to provide an abundance of learning outside of preschool.
