As we build our sense of whanaungatanga through connections in our wider community a group of us were lucky enough to head out and spend the morning visiting the residents at Rowena Jackson retirement village.
Some of the residents read books with the tamariki, talking and laughing together and sharing joy as they shared stories. All of the tamariki had a go at colouring in poppy's for the residents to brighten up their windows for ANZAC day remembrance. As the tamariki sat at the tables some of the residents came and joined them talking about their colouring and asking them questions as they too coloured the poppy's.
The tamariki enjoyed a game of corn hole as they lined up the bean bags and threw them trying to get them in the holes. What a fun and busy morning we all had building mana whenua| belonging as we make connections with our wider world and community and build relationships with others. We are already looking forward to our next visit where we will play some board games, sing songs and enjoy each others company, building meaningful joyful Interactions.
Regular visits bring joy to seniors and provide a fun, nurturing environment for children.
