Today some of the children from the Kea Room were lucky enough to go for an excursion to the town basin to visit the Hundertwasser building site. This visit follows on from work that Elmie has been doing in the Kea Room with and alongside the children around the Hundertwasser buildings and who he was as an artist.

Rachel (Austin's Mum) is an engineer on the project and kindly organised a time for us to go and have a look at the construction site. When we arrived they had laid us out our own high viz and hard hats and even the adults had to wear one too. We were introduced to all the people and then we headed over to where the crane was and we see how the crane works. It's all don't by re mote control and it is used to move lots of different building materials. Rachel then spent time explaining to the children all about the foundations which have been laid, these foundations are as tall as the crane and have gone all the way into the ground. After we looked around the site we went and explored He Kakano, which is the small model of what is currently being constructed.

Our last stop was of course the town basin playground, where we had a quick bite to eat before heading back to catch the bus.

What a great morning for the children and a huge thank you to Rachel and all our parent help.
