Over the past few weeks, our tamariki have been busy becoming little gardeners as we begin our journey of sprouting seeds.
Together, we have planted a variety of seeds and have been patiently waiting to see what happens. Each day, the tamariki have been checking on their seeds, looking closely to see if anything has changed. There has been lots of excitement as some of our seeds have started to sprout.
This experience has created many meaningful conversations. Tamariki have been proudly showing their friends and kaiako which seeds belong to them, noticing the tiny shoots beginning to appear and comparing the different stages of growth.
We have been wondering together: Which seed will sprout next? Why are some growing faster than others? What do plants need to grow?
Through this hands-on experience, our tamariki are developing their curiosity and learning about the natural world. They are beginning to understand concepts such as growth, change and caring for living things.
Planting seeds also encourages patience and responsibility as we continue to care for and observe our plants each day.
We are excited to continue watching our seeds grow and seeing where our little gardening journey takes us.
