We Choose Kindness!

At Montessori Flagstaff, we celebrated Kindness Day, a day inspired by Pink Shirt Day "Speak up, Stand together", an anti-bullying campaign.

We celebrated this as "we choose kindness', to reflect the gentle, positive values we share with our children.

Children wore pink, a colour that represents compassion, empathy and a beautiful message that everyone is equal. It served as a cheerful reminder to be kind, to include others and to treat everyone with respect.

We spoke about how kindness can be shown through small acts, gentle words, helping hands and friendly smiles. We shared in great activities and one in particular, where we put children's photos face down so that children couldn't see who they were picking. Each child chose a random photo and was asked to draw a picture and/or write something kind for that person.

This way, they weren't just picking their close friends; they were showing kindness to everyone. While they were drawing or writing, we had great conversations, and asked questions like, "what do you want to draw for your friend?" and "what do you think this friend likes to do?".

All the children took part and created heartfelt pictures and kind messages. It was a beautiful day filled with kindness. This day fits well with Montessori philosophy, which encourages respect, care and kindness towards others, something we value every day!
