Every year BestStart centres in the Wellington region get together to put on a very special show to celebrate culture and creativity through arts and music. This show is called WAM (Wearable Arts and Music).

There is a lot of excitement and build up to the main event as costumes as made and created into a performance for all to see. This year our costumes represented a story very close to our own hearts ‘where the wild things are” by Maurice Sendak.

At BestStart Petone, the wild things come to play everyday as part of bringing our vision for our centre to life. Through this experience our children dressed in upcycled costumes created by our Preschool team and children. These were based on the characters in the book. We had the rambunctious Max who was sent to his room and was where the wild adventure began. The trees helped Max enter the land of the Wild Things where Tangaroa and Hinemoana helped Max sail to meet his new friends, The Wild Things. The wild rumpus certainly started and the children did a fantastic job at bringing this story to life.

What an awesome experience for our children to be a part of and build their confidence in performing on stage and for all the children to be involved in making and creating our masterpieces.
