Discover our unique rooms

BestStart Pinnacles is a purpose-built childcare centre in Wānaka with three classrooms and two dedicated outdoor play areas, giving children spaces that suit their different ages and stages while supporting safe, confident exploration.

Our beautiful high-ceilinged centre has been thoughtfully designed to encourage connection between classrooms and smooth transitions as children grow. Indoors and outdoors, tamariki have plenty of opportunities to learn through active exploration, with our local Wānaka environment and community providing inspiration for their learning and adventures.

Explore our classrooms below to discover more about the spaces and experiences your child can enjoy at BestStart Pinnacles!

Aroha Room(0-2 years)

Welcome to Aroha, our beautiful nursery where the tiniest feet make the biggest footprints on our hearts. With a maximum of 20 pēpi in a spacious, thoughtfully designed environment and an excellent teacher-to-child ratio of 1:4, your little one receives the love, attention and support they need to thrive.

  • Start with Heart: Our approach puts strong, trusting relationships at the heart of your child's day, creating a calm and caring environment where pēpi feel safe, secure and supported.
  • Learning at their own pace: From sensory play and music to tummy time and storytelling, daily experiences are thoughtfully planned to support each child's individual development and interests.
  • Individual care and attention: Our dedicated kaiako take the time to get to know your pēpi, responding to their unique cues and supporting them through each new stage of their development.

Whether it’s cuddles, first steps or curious little hands discovering something new, Aroha is a safe and joyful space filled with warmth, wonder and lots of love.

Koa Room(2-3.5 years)

Welcome to Koa, named for the joy and happiness that toddlers bring. This vibrant, loving space is designed for curious little explorers, with three passionate and nurturing kaiako creating plenty of opportunities for learning, laughter and discovery.

  • Learning through play: Hands-on activities and rich learning experiences encourage children to explore, use their imagination and develop their growing independence.
  • Caring relationships: At this age, children still need plenty of cuddles and calm moments. Our kaiako provide a balance of fun, active experiences and nurturing care, helping every child feel safe, seen and valued.
  • Rest when they need it: Koa has a cosy, dedicated nap area where children can recharge during the day.
  • Learning alongside others: Sharing an outdoor space with our older children gives tamariki opportunities to observe, interact and build friendships across age groups, supporting their confidence and social skills.

Every day in Koa is a new adventure, filled with laughter, learning and a whole lot of heart.

Tūhura Room(3.5-5 years)

Tūhura means “to discover”, and that’s exactly what our older tamariki are encouraged to do each day. This vibrant and engaging space is designed to nurture a love of learning while helping children build the confidence, independence and skills they need for their next big adventure at school.

  • Set for School: Older children join the Ruru Rangers, where they work towards a special merit chart focused on developing the early literacy, numeracy, social and independence skills they need to feel confident and ready for their transition to school.
  • Learning through discovery: Children have plenty of opportunities to follow their curiosity, explore their interests and learn through play, building problem-solving skills, independence and confidence along the way.
  • Learning beyond the centre: Regular excursions change with the seasons and children's interests, from forest adventures to active movement sessions at the local tennis courts and upcoming community bike rides.
  • Connected to their community: These experiences help children develop confidence, a sense of belonging and an understanding of the wider world around them.

In Tūhura, we celebrate each child's strengths and support their individual journey, helping them leave BestStart not just school-ready, but ready for life.
