At Beststart Balclutha, your whānau, is our whānau!

We are proud to be a centre where children, families, and teachers come together to create a strong sense of belonging and community.

At BestStart Balclutha, we are proud to be a centre where children, families, and teachers come together to create a strong sense of belonging and community. Set in the heart of Balclutha, our centre reflects the values of our rural South Otago community and celebrates the unique opportunities that come from growing, learning, and exploring together.

We believe every child is capable, confident, and full of potential. Our dedicated kaiako provide a nurturing, child-led learning environment where tamariki are encouraged to follow their interests, build on their strengths, and develop the skills they need for lifelong learning. Whether children are discovering new ideas, forming friendships, or exploring their creativity, every day brings exciting opportunities for growth. One of the highlights of our centre is our spacious outdoor environment. Children enjoy exploring, caring for gardens, developing their physical skills, and using their imagination through open-ended play.

These experiences help foster confidence, resilience, and a connection to the world around them. As a close-knit centre, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We value strong partnerships with whānau and recognise that children thrive when families and teachers work together. Through regular celebrations, community involvement, and cultural events such as Matariki, we create meaningful opportunities for connection and learning. Our philosophy is simple: we are a family.

We strive to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels respected, supported, and empowered to contribute. From a child's very first day through to their transition to school, we are committed to helping each tamaiti develop the confidence, curiosity, and skills needed for a bright future.

At BestStart Balclutha, your whānau is our whānau. Together, we teach, learn, nurture, and celebrate every step of the learning journey.

Kind words from parents

"Great environment, staff communication is constant, happy children, healthy food choices, safe play areas"
Anna
My son has been going here since February 2025 and when he started he had limited speech and social skills and was struggling with a lot due to autism. The whole team has helped him so much to the point where he’s practically a different kid! He’s come so far with the love patience and care of all the staff here. Couldn’t fault it even if I tried.
Georgia
"The teachers have a real good connection with Aurora and a good understanding with what my wants for her learning are."
