Bringing Learning to Life in a Nurturing, Nature-Inspired Community
At BestStart Bremner Road, we are committed to bringing learning to life in a warm, welcoming environment where every child and whānau feels a strong sense of belonging.
Nestled beside the beautiful Ngākaroa River in the heart of Drury, our centre draws inspiration from the whakataukī that just as the river nurtures the land around it, so too does a kaiako nurture tamariki. We see children as seeds with the potential to grow into strong, resilient trees — with the right care, guidance, and encouragement, their roots are strengthened, providing the solid foundation they need to flourish.
Inspired by our local environment and guided by the principles of Te Whāriki, we provide a play-based curriculum that empowers tamariki to explore, discover, and grow with confidence. Through Whakamana (Empowerment), Kotahitanga (Holistic Development), Whānau Tangata (Family & Community), and Ngā Hononga (Relationships), we support the whole child and work in partnership with families to build strong, respectful connections.
Our natural surroundings play a meaningful role in children’s learning. The Ngākaroa River symbolises connection, continuity, and respect for the world around us, inspiring tamariki to develop curiosity and care for Papatūānuku. Weekly walks to the local playground and school visits for our older children further enrich learning experiences and help strengthen community ties.
We are also thoughtfully incorporating the RIE approach into our practice. Through respectful communication, uninterrupted play, and consistent routines, we recognise each child as capable and competent from birth. By nurturing trusting relationships and honouring every child’s mana, we create an environment where tamariki don’t just learn, they thrive.
