Discover BestStart Dilworth in Remuera

At BestStart Dilworth, tamariki learn in a warm, nurturing environment where curiosity, play, and connection come first. Located in Remuera, our early childhood education centre provides a safe and inspiring place where children from infancy through to preschool can learn, explore, and grow.

Our purposefully designed spaces support each stage of development, with dedicated areas for different age groups, spacious indoor and outdoor environments, and smaller group sizes that allow our teaching team to build strong, trusting relationships with every child.

Our local curriculum is inspired by the history and significance of our place, including our local maunga, Ōhinerau (Mt Hobson). Tamariki explore local stories, waiata, and te reo Māori, helping them develop a strong sense of identity, cultural connection, language, and belonging. Our dedicated library further supports this learning, providing a quiet reading space, a storytelling corner, and opportunities for tamariki to create and share their own stories, fostering a lifelong love of literacy and learning.

At BestStart Dilworth, our learning environment provides a wide range of opportunities for tamariki to explore, create, and discover. Our dedicated spaces, including our gym and project room, support intentional teaching, creativity, movement, and collaborative learning experiences.

Our older tamariki are supported through our Set for School programme, which focuses on building the confidence, independence, and skills needed for a smooth transition to school. As part of this programme, we have introduced Casey the Caterpillar, our literacy programme designed to support early literacy skills, language development, and a love of reading. Through engaging, play-based experiences, tamariki develop phonological awareness, vocabulary, listening and comprehension skills, storytelling abilities, letter and sound recognition, and early writing confidence.

We also value our connection with the wider Remuera community. Tamariki enjoy opportunities to explore their local environment, including walks to Ōhinerau, visits from the local library, and regular community experiences that help strengthen their sense of belonging.

Kind words from parents

"As a family, we are extremely happy with how our daughter has been looked after and how her development has been supported by everyone at BestStart, not only her teachers."
Santiago
"I would happily recommend BestStart Dilworth Avenue to my friends because the staff are caring, supportive, and create a safe and positive environment for my girl. It gives parents confidence that their children are well looked after."
Charith
"We love best start Dilworth Ave! Wonderful teachers and management staff, great facilities and they are often putting on fun activities for the kids. They have yoga sessions, jumping beans and all sorts of fun extras. I have my 3.5 year old and 1 year old here and they are both very happy."
Abbey
"BestStart Dilworth provides a nurturing, well-organised environment with dedicated teachers and separate rooms, making my son’s transition smooth and positive. The teachers and manager partner openly with families, and their sound understanding of Te Whāriki shapes every part of the day. My son feels safe, valued, and that he belongs—a true reflection of the Te Whāriki principle of belonging (Mana Whenua). The Reggio Emilia approach is woven into practice—teachers notice children's strengths and interests, encourage exploration, and support learning through projects and real-life experiences. Children’s voices are respected, and their ideas help shape the learning environment. Teachers see each child as capable and competent, supporting them to work together and develop knowledge in meaningful ways. This respectful, child-centered approach truly brings Te Whāriki’s aspirations to life for every family."
