Building a Brighter Future Together

At BestStart Everglade Preschool, we are proud to be part of a vibrant, multicultural community and we celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds of our children and staff. This enables the children at our centre to learn about, understand, and respect the exciting cultural diversity within our community.

We also have strong links with local schools such as Everglade Primary, Hill Park, Manurewa Central and Redoubt Primary School. We actively participate in a variety of school events and also encourage the neighbouring school children to be involved in our centre events. We also have our sister centre BestStart Everglade Babies nearby.

Our Team

We have a friendly team of qualified teachers, a centre cook, and a centre administrator who provide the best learning and care environments for the children. We believe that children are empowered to be capable, competent and confident learners when they are supported by kaiako through positive relationships where they feel safe, secure, and have a sense of belonging.

We work closely with the NZ Heart Foundation and have a strong focus on the Hauora initiative which encourages children to be healthy in mind, body and spirit. We work collaboratively with outside agencies such as CCS Disability and MOE to support our children with additional needs. The children brush their teeth at the centre and we work with Smile Care to promote an oral health programme in the centre.

We look forward to hearing from you and joining you in the journey of raising your child. Call us today to book a visit!

kind words from our parents

Parent

I hope you remember Alexander, after finishing up with First Steps we moved to Western Australia. Alex recently mentioned how much he misses First Steps, his friends and his teachers so I thought I would drop you a line. Again I would like to thank you all for the great care and support you guys did for Alex and for the wonderful times and memories he has First Steps. He wishes he can back and visit and play again with Natalie and Robyn.

I have been really please with how Josie has settled in. It was a tricky decision to enrol her at First Steps but I believed she would benefit from a more social environment surrounded by children her own age. I am please to say she is thriving. She comes home talking about about her friends and teachers and the new food she is trying which is great! The staff are very approachable and we are always greeted with a smile and made to feel welcome . They show a genuine interest in our family. We attended the parent event for new families and really enjoyed it. It gave us a chance to have valuable conversations with teachers in a relaxed way. We have also been kept up with how she is progressing through daily chats at drop off and pick up and via Storypark. We are so pleased how smoothly Josie has transitioned.

I have seen Daniel grow in confidence and develop many new skill during his time at First Steps. His verbal skills are fantastic and his cognitive skills have really impressed me. I am confident he is well prepared for school. The Be School Ready initiative has given him a head start and is excellent. He has developed a well rounded set of tools that has set him up for success in the future.

My son has developed so much since he started. I am amazed how he is growing and at all the things he has learnt and experienced. Initially I felt anxious about leaving him but seeing the way the teachers made him feel and their actions and affections towards him made me feel better inside. Communication between the centre and home is very good. The teachers understand and listen to me and I appreciate their feedback and help. I know I have chosen the right daycare for my son.

Parent

My child enjoys going to preschool and never likes to miss a day from preschool only if she is sick and she knows she has to stay home until she is well. The staff are awesome and they communicate with the parents and children very well. I am thankful for their awesome job with my child.

Parent

I have really enjoyed having my children at First Steps Everglade. They are excited to arrive every morning and come home full of stories of achievements and things they have learnt. I feel supported by the staff and feel they take a genuine interest in my family and the well-being of my children.

Parent

New parents believe they are the only ones that can look after and nurture their child but our thinking and belief was challenged when we enrolled our little 2 year old son Askoka at BestStart Everglade Preschool. My wife thought he was too young and was not ready to come to Preschool and rather stay a bit longer at the babies centre. During his settling time at the Preschool, it was quite emotional for us to drop him off in the mornings but we did not lose hope and I reassured my wife to give it a go, however as months past after he started at his preschool, we were amazed to see how much he had grown and developed in his learning. His language developed and he was able to negotiate, regulate his emotions, take risks on the play equipment outdoors and being empathetic towards others. We would like to thank all the staff at BestStart Everglade Preschool for their love and care they have shown towards supporting my child to achieve his learning potential. With no other family support here, the teaching team have gone above and beyond in helping my son to grow up as an independent boy.

Parent

Just personally thank you for your support and continued support in Nikoras settling process. As much as he cries when I do leave he has many fun stories to tell when we have time to ourselves before we pick his older sister up from school. He is slowly but surely gaining more trust that I will return at the end of the day and is starting to say “my teachers love me too so I can stay at school mum” which is awesome to hear. As parents we like to always reinforce that trying anything is better than not at all and also that even if you fail or it doesn’t work to try again. Also to trust in yourself as a person (Nikora often will say I can’t or don’t want to do that) so we are trying to reinforce that he try new things even if he doesn’t think he can. We feel these are other important values to be the best you can be.

I am very happy that my child a part of this centre because all the teachers are very nice. I want to thank the manager because she is always helping me with everything. I have just started a new job and it is very difficult for me to manage everything, but because of these teachers I can manage everything well. Once again thanks so much to all the staff and the manager for helping me.

Kingi Whaanau

Beststart Everglade has always been full of smiles and laughter which has helped Nikora feel right at home. Your caring and helpful teachers have made such an impact on helping Nikora shine and become such a caring young boy. The welcoming and loving environment that greets us every morning is such a treat. Nikora has loved his time at Beststart Everglade and will dearly miss all his teachers and friends. Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa (gratitude to you all).
