BestStart Hei Hei

BestStart Hei Hei is a welcoming early learning centre in Hornby, Christchurch, providing care and education for children aged 3 months to 6 years. With four classrooms and a passionate team of kaiako, we provide a warm, supportive environment where tamariki can learn through play, explore their interests and develop at their own pace.

Located next to Hornby Primary School and within walking distance of Matatiki Hornby Centre, our location makes it easy for local families to access quality early learning close to home.

At BestStart Hei Hei, we offer:

• Start with Heart: Our youngest tamariki receive responsive, nurturing care that follows their individual routines and needs, helping them build secure relationships and a strong foundation for learning.
• Set for School: Our older tamariki build independence, confidence, social skills and early literacy and numeracy foundations to help them feel prepared for the transition to primary school.
• A strong connection to Hornby: Part of the local community since 2007, BestStart Hei Hei has grown alongside the families we serve. Our learning reflects the area's history and cultural heritage, including the Māori tradition of kai hau kai – sharing food and resources with others.
• Learning in our Secret Garden: Our fruit trees, garden and community pantry give tamariki hands-on opportunities to learn about growing, sustainability, food and generosity.
• Convenient for busy families: Open 7am–6pm, our extended hours make drop-off and pick-up easier, while our location near Hornby Primary School and Matatiki Hornby Centre adds everyday convenience.
