Our Pitau learning environment is a safe and nurturing space where unhurried care moments are woven into a curriculum that promotes and supports our youngest learners to learn about their world. Through secure relationships with our caring and responsive Kaiako, tamariki feel safe and free to explore, play, learn, and grow.
With their own outdoor environment, our infants and young toddlers are provided with the freedom to explore and play in a safe outdoor area designed just for them.

Discover our unique rooms
We provide age-specific programmes for your child and they are cared for in three separate rooms: our Nursery for 0 to 2-year olds; our Preschool for 2 to 3.5-year olds and the Prep-Room 3.5 to 5-year olds. All rooms offer options for morning, afternoon, 6 hour or full day sessions. Our beautiful purpose-built centre is well-resourced, and learning is driven by children’s interests so they can become confident, independent, respectful and creative thinkers.
Pitau Room(3 months - 2 years)
Koru Room(2 years - 3 years)
Our Koru space promotes children’s curiosity. Tamariki are encouraged to use their imaginations and make discoveries about themselves and the world around them through play, Kaiako actively support children’s excitement and love for learning at the pace that is right for them. Our Kaiako encourage our tamariki to be the leaders in their own learning journeys; fostering children’s independence and agency in ways that are meaningful to them.
We have a large outdoor space, giving children the opportunity to explore and discover, helping foster their key developmental skills. Our tamariki are supported to help look after their environment and care for our resident bunny Patch, supporting children to observe, interact, and learn about living things and the natural environment.
Puawai Room(3 years - 6 years)
At BestStart Kaikorai Valley Road we believe that preparing your child for school starts from your very first day with us. In our Puawai room, we continue to build and extend on everything they have learnt during their time here at BestStart Kaikorai Valley Road, setting the foundations for their future learning as tamariki prepare to transition to primary school and future learning.
We believe in the integration of learning and play; as children learn best through ‘doing’, and this is reflected in our play-based ‘Set for School’ framework so although it may look like our children are ‘just’ playing, they are hard at work being active and involved learners – and having lots of fun at the same time!
