Nestled in the heart of Kaikorai Valley, close to Dunedin BestStart Kaikorai Valley Road is a welcoming, vibrant, and flexible early childhood centre for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. We are a purpose-built early childhood centre where tamariki laugh, learn, share, and grow.

We provide a welcoming, vibrant, and flexible environment; responsive to all akonga and their changing needs, interests, and abilities. Teachers are committed to consciously growing respectful and loving relationships for all.

We acknowledge and celebrate all cultures, embracing the richness and diversity that they bring. We have a strong commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and bicultural development. We recognise the mana of the child as we strive to provide safe, inclusive, stimulating environments that acknowledge the rich funds of knowledge that each child and their whānau brings with them.

We believe in the integration of learning and play as children learn best through 'doing'. We believe that through opportunities to explore the world around them, children become active and involved learners.

Our priorities for children's learning are implemented through quality teaching strategies in ways that are relative to each individual. Teachers are focused on supporting children to become Socially Confident, Investigative Learners, Resilience, and Enriched in languages, numbers, and information technology.

Our Spaces

We provide age-specific programmes for your child and they are cared for in three separate rooms: our Nursery for 0 to 2-year olds; our Preschool for 2 to 3.5-year olds and the Prep-Room 3.5 to 5-year olds. All rooms offer options for morning, afternoon, 6 hour or full day sessions.  Our beautiful purpose-built centre is well-resourced, and learning is driven by children’s interests so they can become confident, independent, respectful and creative thinkers.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the Puawai staff at EduKids Kaikorai Valley. Our child is learning and growing. She has so much fun in this room with her friends and her teachers, and as a parent we understand that learning comes from playing. We take our youngest there and having never used anything other than kindy for our eldest who is 7yrs older, I have to say what fantastic experience we are having. Our daughter has had some serious health issues and it was suggested that this would be good for us all and it is. She loves it and I love going into a friendly environment.

I would just like to say how happy I've been the last year that my two children have attended Beststart Kaikorai. My child attended a couple of other kindergartens before this one and I just never felt welcome or comfortable at either of them. But here at BestStart it's like a second home for not only my kids but me. All of the staff are amazing and both of my children and tell me all about how much they love them all. I am extremely grateful at the level of care they provide for my children and everyone else's children. I would like to particularly thank Melissa for her attentiveness with my daughter and how she is always communicating with me things that she has noticed. She is an excellent early childhood educator and I can't sing her praises enough. I also would like to mention Danie and how amazing she has been taking both my children so early in the mornings and feeding them their breakfast. My daughter is heading off to school next week more than ready thanks to the help of all the staff there, they've taught her so many things that I would never have thought of. So I'd just like to say a big thank you for everything and I'm glad that I still get to spend the next 3 years with one child still at your centre.
