At our centre, we love embracing the rich diversity of our community through meaningful cultural celebrations. In April, our tamariki came together with excitement and aroha to celebrate the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

We believe in creating meaningful cultural experiences that help children grow with understanding and respect for the diverse cultures within our community.

In April, we celebrated Eid al-Fitr, a special time marking the beginning of Shawwal—the month that follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. It’s a time when Muslim communities around the world come together with joy, aroha, and gratitude. People dress in their best clothes, decorate their homes, share kai, and greet each other with “Eid Mubarak”, meaning Happy Eid.

Our tamariki embraced the spirit of Eid with so much excitement! They dressed up in beautiful outfits, created heartfelt Eid cards, and expressed their creativity by designing stars and moons using a variety of materials.

As part of the celebration, our tamariki also had the chance to make and taste coconut sweets called Laddu, which added a delicious and hands-on learning experience to the day.

We love celebrating the rich cultural diversity of our community, as it brings everyone together and supports tamariki to feel a sense of belonging. By participating in Eid celebrations, our children gain awareness of different cultures and develop respect for religious and cultural traditions.

Through engaging in group activities, food, art, and shared conversations, tamariki build social connections, deepen their understanding of the world, and grow into kind, empathetic citizens of Aotearoa.
