Aroha - The Heart of our Learning Journey

BestStart Nottingham Avenue is a homely, long-established centre that provides care and education for children aged 3 months to 6 years. Our center comprises three dedicated, age-appropriate classrooms within two converted houses, each featuring their own adjoining gardens, trees, and playgrounds. This setup allows children to connect with each other in different areas of the center throughout the day.

Our vision, "Relationships Nurture and Support Learning," guides everything we do at BestStart Nottingham Avenue. Our core priorities include Expressing Ourselves, Language Discovery, Investigating our World, and Growing Relationships. We are a lunchbox center, encouraging children to bring their own lunch boxes to develop essential self-care skills for school. We provide nutritious morning and afternoon teas that adhere to Healthy Heart guidelines. Our strong community connections include relationships with local schools and regular visits to local amenities like Te Hapua Halswell Library and the local Halswell Domain.

Our Team

We are a small but close team with all of our team combined having worked at BestStart for 80 years! With each teacher bringing their own unique skills to the table. With regular professional development and learning from one another we are consistently upskilling to provide the best possible care and education to our BestStart Nottingham family.

Our Spaces

Our centre features three dedicated, age-appropriate classrooms within two converted houses, each with its own adjoining gardens, trees, and playgrounds. This setup encourages children to connect and explore different areas of the centre throughout the day. With small classroom numbers, spacious outdoor playgrounds, and well-established gardens, our environment promotes active exploration where tamariki can take safe risks.

I love Ann’s enthusiasm and passion she has in the skills development of these little beings. She is so devoted towards encouraging and building their skills. The teachers were so helpful for first time mothers like myself and taught me so much about babies and their development. Who better to learn from then those who have cared for kids as their career! We would like to thank everyone for making our whanau so very welcome into BestStart Nottingham . We have loved watching Thea blossom and grow into the intelligent young lady that she is, and that is a huge testament to how well she’s been looked after here. She has settled so well, and has made some wonderful relationships with both her teachers and friends, and we are so fortunate to have some special memories for her to look back on. You have all been amazing, and we cannot thank you enough for taking special care of our girl.
