Discover our unique rooms

We are very blessed at Ōmokoroa BestStart we have 5 purpose-built classrooms that cater the individual growth and needs of your tamariki. We let the child progress at their own pace, which means the different rooms are to moved through when they are ready, the ages below are only a small indication. The room names come from the birds of Ōmokoroa

Piwakawaka Room(Under 1s)

The journey begins in our Piwakawaka classroom, a safe space dedicated for our littlest pepē.

Individual routines and natural rhythms are upheld in an environment that is designed to be safe and challenging with children's interests and milestones in mind.

We implement a RIE inspired philosophy where relationships between children, teachers and families is key in a calm and gentle atmosphere.

Kotare Room (1 to 2 years)

The Kotare room is for our slightly older babies who are finding their independence.

The indoor and outdoor spaces are designed with their developmental stage in mind
Resources and activities are personalised to suit each child's interests and to help achieve their milestones.

Our small classroom size allows children to develop strong relationships with teachers and one another.

Kereru Room(2 to 3 years)

Our Toddlers in the Kereru rūma are exploring their world through communication and independence.

We create a safe and engaging environment that allows more independence and exploration. Collaboration and making friends is encouraged and we have developmentally appropriate resources and activities with balanced routines of both care and education.

Tui Room(3 to 4 years)

Our tamariki in Tuī rūma are empowered to strengthen their relationships and social skills with their peers as they move to more group play and friendship development. We set more specific goals to support their development as they engage curiously in their interests.

This thoughtfully designed environment allows children freedom and independence with opportunities to extend learning through extracurricular activities such as Gymnastics and Jujitzu.

We also offer outdoor learning through nature with our vegetable and sensory gardens.

Kuaka Room(Over 4 years)

The end of the journey is in our Kuaka rūma, is where the leaders of our learning community are on their pathway to kura.

We have a "Set for School" program to prepare our oldest tamariki for the transition to primary school
and the activities are provided encourage learning of literacy and numeracy.

We host regular extracurricular activities such as Gymnastics and Jujitzu and have a large, natural outdoor space set up with vegetable and sensory gardens.
