Our Vision: Being Together, Growing Together
At BestStart Pioneer, every day is treated as a new opportunity to connect, grow, and build on the immense curiosity that will create a life-long love of learning. We understand the importance of strong, healthy relationships between whānau, children, teachers and community. We work alongside families to ensure the best care and early education possible for your child.
We embrace open communication and foster trust through regular updates on your child's development and creating a warm, welcoming learning environment. We believe that every child is unique, with something valuable to offer. We guide children in uncovering their unique strengths, and in turn, they’re constantly teaching us.
You'll notice it the moment you walk in the door. Whilst respecting the past, we’ve developed the traditional model of childcare into a more holistic approach, encompassing care, education, inspiration, and connection. It’s a home away from home and a supportive community for you and your family.
Our Team
Our qualified, experienced and professional team offer an atmosphere that nurtures a child’s interest, stimulates creativity and satisfies their innate need to explore and discover the world around them. We strive to meet the needs of the child, the parents, and the wider whānau by providing high-quality childcare enabling parents to feel secure in the knowledge that their child is well cared for, confident and happy.

Te Ruma Toetoe is our specialised infant and toddler care room, catering for children up to approximately two years of age. This room is a relaxed space where our youngest children start their preschool journey. We accommodate infants (aged from 3 months – and toddlers – up to 2 years of age) with a maximum of 12 children at any one time.
Teachers follow the children’s cues and routines providing a respectful, calm and unhurried environment to explore at their own pace and in their own time. Our children children explore, discover and challenge themselves while having fun.
We base our practice around respectful relationships and communication so that you and your child feel connected. Our daily routine is based on nurturing and supporting your child and enabling continuity from home to the centre.
Te Ruma Kauri
Preschool
Te Ruma Kauri is our preschool room catring for children from two to five years of age. This area supports tamariki as they grow and develop their communication and social skills. The classroom is designed for open-ended exploration and the development of relationships with kaiako and peers, giving the opportunity for our tamariki to learn with and alongside others.
We have a large outdoor space that promotes healthy physical activities and focus on children developing their confidence and independence as well as the ability to work cooperatively with others.
Our teaching approach is very relationship focused as we work closely with our tamariki and their whanau to provide meaningful and authentic learning experiences that provoke investigation and problem-solving.
We foster friendships as tamariki work alongside kaiako who encourage them to grow their skills to be independent and confident in all areas of the curriculum.
Our Set for School programme is unique and tamariki have the opportunity to experience primary school before they start, with regular visits to Hoon Hay and West Spreydon Primary to spend time in the new entrant classroom. Other activities are also incorporated such as library visits, attending tumble times, and using the park and playground.
