Te Ruma Toetoe is our specialised infant and toddler care room, catering for children up to approximately two years of age. This room is a relaxed space where our youngest children start their preschool journey. We accommodate infants (aged from 3 months – and toddlers – up to 2 years of age) with a maximum of 12 children at any one time.
Teachers follow the children’s cues and routines providing a respectful, calm and unhurried environment to explore at their own pace and in their own time. Our children children explore, discover and challenge themselves while having fun.
We base our practice around respectful relationships and communication so that you and your child feel connected. Our daily routine is based on nurturing and supporting your child and enabling continuity from home to the centre.

Te Ruma KauriPreschool
Te Ruma Kauri is our preschool room catring for children from two to five years of age. This area supports tamariki as they grow and develop their communication and social skills. The classroom is designed for open-ended exploration and the development of relationships with kaiako and peers, giving the opportunity for our tamariki to learn with and alongside others.
We have a large outdoor space that promotes healthy physical activities and focus on children developing their confidence and independence as well as the ability to work cooperatively with others.
Our teaching approach is very relationship focused as we work closely with our tamariki and their whanau to provide meaningful and authentic learning experiences that provoke investigation and problem-solving.
We foster friendships as tamariki work alongside kaiako who encourage them to grow their skills to be independent and confident in all areas of the curriculum.
Our Set for School programme is unique and tamariki have the opportunity to experience primary school before they start, with regular visits to Hoon Hay and West Spreydon Primary to spend time in the new entrant classroom. Other activities are also incorporated such as library visits, attending tumble times, and using the park and playground.
