BestStart is one of NZ's leading early childcare providers. BestStart Railway Road in Palmerston provides affordable, high quality education and award winning childcare for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

At BestStart Railway Road, we believe that teaching children to be excited about learning will set them up to be excited about learning for their lifetime which will inspire them to become future leaders. Toddler and preschool children are involved in local excursions on a weekly basis, planned in response to the children’s interests. 

Our centre is located between Feilding and Palmerston North and set amongst a rural background away from the busy city centre. 

The Education Review Office described our centre as: A calm, welcoming atmosphere supports the development of strong relationships with children and whānau. Children benefit from a curriculum that consistently reflects the service's philosophy. Educators actively promote a sense of belonging within the centre. Flexible, well-considered processes promote children’s wellbeing when transitioning into the centre and between age groups.

What We Offer

With the attention to detail, passion and pure love you all have to the children in your care, Lewis is now 5 and on his next journey. We truly appreciate your support, friendship, advice and taking the task of keeping Lewis safe at the forefront. Because of all of you, Lewis has become a keen, happy school boy.

Our child is thriving and coming along leaps and bounds. The staff are very caring and understanding of our child’s needs. We have seen our child’s independence and creativity flourish due to the activities and support provided by the staff at the centre.

My 1 year old who started attending the centre 6 months ago, has issues with eczema and food intolerances. We have been through months of trying to indentify what is causing it and with the great communication, trust and support of Kay, Tracey and all the amazing teachers in the babies room we have been able to work through this.

This morning as I was dropping my one year old off there was a significant earthquake. I watched all of the staff respond quickly and calmly to ensure the safety of the children as the earthquake struck. As a parent, watching from outside the door as the staff in the babies room shielded my daughter with their bodies and began instantly singing them songs to help them stay calm, I was incredibly grateful and was able to leave confident and reassured that she was in the best care possible.

My husband and I have been continually impressed with the Railway Road Centre since our daughter started there in January. The centre’s management of Covid19 response was incredible, we were able to engage with the staff via Zoom for stories, music and even a little birthday party for our little one who turned 1 during level 3. We were contacted regularly through phone call, text and Storypark and felt that this helped our daughter transition back into full time care seamlessly. As a family where both parents are essential service workers this has been a weight off our shoulders.

Due to the CONSISTENT and STABLE staff at BestStart Railway Road Palmerston North. They have provided security and enabled our daughter to develop meaningful relationships with them. She was a shy little girl when she started and now, she is happy and confident and cannot wait for her BestStart days. As a parent all you want is your children to be happy, so we are happy. She is also showing great progress with reading and writing, art, music and song and dance, physical activities, creative activities and group work. Your centres are only as good as your staff and we feel very lucky to be part of this centre.

BestStart Railway Road has an amazing baby team supported by Erin, their friendly receptionist. My daughter learns loads and the team really support what she likes to do. We are having a great experience and love getting to see fun photos of her day.
