Discover our unique rooms

We offer two thoughtfully designed learning environments, one for our Under 2s and one for our Over 2s, each tailored to support the unique interests, abilities, and developmental stages of our tamariki. Discover more about our nurturing Fantail and Tui rooms below.

Fantail Room(Under 2's)

The Fantail Room is a warm, nurturing home away from home where our youngest tamariki feel safe, loved, and supported to learn and grow. Our calm, inviting environment has been thoughtfully designed to encourage exploration through play, with experiences tailored to each child's interests and stage of development. Strong relationships with whānau are at the heart of everything we do.

We keep families connected through a daily communication notebook, sharing important routines such as sleep, meals, and nappy changes, alongside special moments and messages from your child's day. Our beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces provide endless opportunities for discovery.

From loose parts and sensory play indoors to our covered deck, sandpit, water play, climbing, and trike tracks outside, every area has been intentionally created to support the learning, confidence, and wellbeing of our infants and toddlers in a caring, home-like environment.

Tui Room / Kindy(Over 2's)

The Tui Room is our vibrant learning environment for our older tamariki, thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence. Our space offers a variety of indoor and outdoor learning areas where tamariki can explore art, loose parts, puzzles, construction, dramatic play, and sensory experiences at their own pace.

Our spacious outdoor environment encourages active play, with water play, a large sandpit, bike tracks, climbing opportunities, and inviting spaces for tamariki to build friendships and work together. The covered outdoor learning area provides a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, ensuring learning and play can continue in all weather.

At BestStart Whangamatā, we believe tamariki learn best through play. Our play-based curriculum is guided by the 16 Areas of Play, offering rich experiences that support all areas of development. As tamariki grow, they also participate in our Set for School programme, where they build early literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, and social skills, helping them feel confident and excited as they prepare for their transition to primary school.
