BestStart Papanui's 16 Areas of Play!

We have had the most wonderful couple of months exploring the 16 Areas of Play and all that this has to offer us and our learners. At BestStart Papanui we believe in learning through play and ensure we provide a rich and responsive curriculum for all akonga.

Through the 16 areas we were able to tap into new ways to play with older experiences - our tamariki had autonomy over their own learning and by having a week per area they were given the time and space needed to delve into curriculum areas they hadn't experienced or tried before.

Our tamariki embraced every area and we were able to ensure we tapped into sensory experiences, full body movement and expression, messy play, carpentry, dramatic play...the list goes on and on! By providing a range of activities and resources children have the opportunity to develop creative thinking skills, language expression, an understanding of their surroundings as well as fostering valuable learning skills to engage in positive interactions; learning to take turns and find new ways to communicate.

It was wonderful to be able to explore these activities and to see the positive learner outcomes for all of our akonga | learners.
