On 9 December 2025, we had a special visit from our community helper, Sue, from the St John First Response team. Sue shared her valuable knowledge with the tamariki by introducing the important equipment she uses when helping people in emergencies.

She showed the children her ambulance kit, carefully naming each piece of equipment and explaining, in a child-friendly way, how it is used to keep people safe. Sue also shared a short story, which captured the children’s attention and encouraged curiosity and discussion.

Sue presented simple emergency scenarios and invited the tamariki to think about who they could call for help. The children responded confidently, identifying when to call the Police, Ambulance, or Fire Fighters. It was wonderful to see their growing understanding of emergency services and the role these helpers play in our community.

Our kaiako actively supported the experience by joining in the hands-on activity, demonstrating how to wrap a bandage and encouraging the children as they practised caring for their friends. The room was filled with excitement, engagement, and meaningful learning.

Thank you, Sue, for taking the time to visit us and for creating a fun, interactive, and educational experience for our tamariki.
