We are absolutely delighted with the addition of a centre piano to our environment!

Both the teaching team and the children have been incredibly excited to explore and learn more about live music together.

Many of our tamariki have confidently come in to have a play, showing curiosity and creativity as they explore the sounds the piano can make. We have opened the top of the piano so tamariki have had an opportunity to see the inner workings, sparking rich conversations around science concepts such as vibration, sound and cause and effect.

Children noticed how pressing a key makes a hammer strike a string creating vibrations that travel through the piano to produce sound. Children have gathered around the piano to sing together, creating moments of connection, joy, and shared music-making. The piano has been thoughfully placed in our foyer, inviting children and whanāu to engage on arrival. It has been wonderful to see our families join in-especially siblings who are learning to play.

Our recent Christmas Party was extra special this year as our families were serenaded with Christmas songs on arrival to set the scene for an enjoyable afternoon. We were even treated to some classical music from one of our aspiring siblings. This has been a very musical and joyful start to our holiday season.
