Adventures of little explorers at BestStart Rototuna
This term, children embarked on a new adventure in Preschool: exploring motor skills.
I had prepared various activities to help them develop both their fine and gross motor skills through play and discovery. The first activity was bead threading. Children were given colourful beads and strings, and as they carefully threaded the beads onto the strings, they improved their hand-eye coordination and fine motor control.
Next was an obstacle course outside. Children climbed, jumped, and crawled their way through different challenges enhancing their gross motor skills and encouraging them to use their larger muscle groups. Another popular activity was the play-dough table. Children squeezed, rolled, and sculpted the dough into various shapes.
This sensory play was fantastic for their fine motor development, strengthening their hand muscles and improving their dexterity. The benefits of these motor skill activities were immense. Children became more adept at using their hands and bodies, which translated into better performance in everyday tasks. They found it easier to dress themselves, cut with scissors, and handle small objects.
Moreover, the exploration of motor skills also fostered social and emotional development, teamwork and showed them that learning could be fun and rewarding.
