This week at Tironui Road Centre, tamariki brought their creativity to life with colourful Matariki-inspired art. The experience encouraged teamwork, cultural learning, and sharing ideas, all leading to a special celebration with whānau and shared kai.

At Tironui Road Centre, we provide children with many opportunities to express their creativity through art. This week, our focus was on bringing their ideas to life using vibrant colours on paper.

The theme for their artwork was based on the Matariki Art Exhibition. We chose a variety of colours and papers so our tamariki had plenty of chances to create beautiful patterns and express their ideas.

The children thoroughly enjoyed working alongside their friends, sharing the thinking behind their masterpieces, and appreciating each other’s efforts. We enjoyed discussing their amazing thoughts throughout this learning experience.

It was fascinating to see them negotiate, take turns, and share art materials. Matariki is also about sharing ideas, remembering good times, and putting them into action through gatherings.

We were privileged to use Matariki as a wonderful learning opportunity to extend the children’s knowledge of Māori culture and their ways of doing things. It allowed them to feel proud sharing their cultural knowledge through this group activity.

We will be acknowledging the Matariki celebration with shared kai alongside whānau and presenting these beautiful artworks to them. Our children are extremely excited about this major event.
