Whānau voices shape learning at BestStart Manukau. From hui to Set for School evenings, our centre thrives on connection, culture, and collaboration—nurturing tamariki through shared stories, tips, and traditions.
At BestStart Manukau, we believe in building and maintaining strong connections with our roots as we continue to delve deeper into our local curriculum.
We love hosting whānau hui, which help us learn more about our Māori learners and provide a space where all parents are welcome to share their aspirations for their tamariki. It’s also a chance to discuss what cultural elements they'd like us to include in their learning journey.
Alongside this, we host a Set for School parents’ evening each term. Angela Cave, the Head of Junior School at Puhinui Primary, joins us to share insights and advice on preparing children for school.
Our whānau really value the way we gather their input to shape each child’s learning. Our Māori families in particular contribute weekly te reo Māori phrases and mahi ngahere (nature-based learning) and gardening tips, which we use in our centre garden.
As teachers, we love to showcase how we use this rich knowledge through displays, photos, and centre celebrations. These experiences bring learning to life and deepen our connection with whānau.
We look forward to continuing these meaningful traditions at BestStart Manukau, gaining deeper knowledge, and celebrating culture every day.
