Over the last few weeks, our preschoolers have been busy preparing for a very special event – the cultural festival.
With great enthusiasm, children practised three beautiful songs that represented different languages and cultures.
The first was a lively Māori song "Kina Kina", which helped them connect to Aotearoa’s rich heritage. The second was a well-loved English song, giving them the chance to sing with confidence in a familiar language.
Finally, they performed the Bengali song Komolai Nitya Kore, where they expressed joy through graceful dance and rhythm. On the day of the festival, children participated with pride, energy, and big smiles, showing us how much they had learned and enjoyed the process.
Being part of a cultural festival provides children with many valuable benefits. It helps them build confidence in performing in front of others, enhances memory and coordination through practising songs and actions, and encourages teamwork as they learn to move, sing, and dance together.
Most importantly, it allows children to celebrate diversity, develop respect for different cultures, and feel a sense of belonging within the wider community.
Their performance was a wonderful reflection of unity, creativity, and joy in learning through music and dance.
