Our Nest room tamariki enjoyed a playful sensory experience with bubble wrap and toy vehicles, exploring sounds, textures, and movement while building confidence, fine motor skills, and social connections.
In the Nest room (under 2s), our kaiako set up a sensory activity by taping bubble wrap to the floor and placing toy vehicles of different sizes along the edge. This thoughtful invitation to play immediately caught the attention of our youngest tamariki.
Some children used their fingers to scratch and press the bubbles, exploring the different popping sounds and textures. Others picked up the toy vehicles and rolled or pushed them across the bubble wrap, experimenting with how size and weight changed the popping noises.
This encouraged imaginative play and problem-solving as they discovered new ways to pop the bubbles. Through this experience, tamariki developed fine motor skills, strengthened hand–eye coordination, and built confidence as they led their own learning journey.
The activity also fostered social interaction, as friends shared in the excitement and joy of popping bubbles together. Overall, this sensory setup created a rich learning environment filled with curiosity, creativity, and fun.
