In our Tarawera room, (the preschool unit), we held a whanau hui and invited primary school teachers to come and chat to us.

We were so lucky to have teachers and a deputy principal come to the hui and answer some questions from a group of our whanau.

Questions like, what does my child need to learn before school? How will my child be supported in the first few weeks of school?

What can we do as a preschool to support the transition of children to primary school?

One thing we really noticed was that we were doing so many things in this preschool unit to already support our Tamariki into primary school. Best Start providing the set for school programme, also gives our tamariki a boost for the start of school.

Having a group of whanau and a group of teachers allowed for the evening to be a sucess with many questions being asked, answered and solutions forund for the tricky questions such as, How will you support parents to understand the first day of school and what is to be expected. The preschhol teachers Justine and Carolyn did an amazing job facilitating this eveing and the infomation that was shared was very valuable for all involved.

At BestStart Pukuatua, we are cementing Set for School and connecting with the local community.
