Contributing to our Learning at BestStart Bay Kindy

Nga Tamariki have been super busy learning by exploring various avenues of learning experiences whilst working alongside each other. Through hands-on activities, children are encouraged to learn through exploration. Hands-on learning develops thinking skills, learning through observing, copying, and experimenting with their hands and body. Tamariki working alongside each other as a team, develops important life skills, such as problem-solving, listening, leadership, and creative thinking.

Nurturing these skills also develops higher levels of self-confidence, self-esteem, empathy, and compassion. Free play gives children an outlet to express their emotions and feelings and helps them to develop a sense of who they are. Here at BestStart Bay Kindy, we hear what nga tamariki would like to experience and explore. Through observing their interests and their strengths, we create a learning environment, alongside the children to best support their learning style.

Experiences that encourage critical thinking and reasoning, having an open mind to learning, and having the freedom and confidence in taking ownership of their own learning, whilst being supported and encouraged by Kaiako. As a Kaiako for numerous years, one of my all-time favourite things to observe is taking a step back and seeing each and every child happy, content, and engaged in play.
