Cultural Celebrations Events!
We have had the opportunity of exposing our children at BestStart Whangaparoa to some really great cultural events. A few weeks back we had the privilege of welcoming Whangaparoa College’s Kapa Haka group into our centre. Our children were completely captivated by the performance they put on for us.
Even the babies watched in awe and some danced along. The older children continued to role play their experience days after the performance, trying to use the poi just like the College children did. We then enjoyed a wonderful Matariki celebration with lots of exciting activities, crafts and story telling.
We were lucky enough to have fry bread for lunch which the Tamariki really enjoyed. The over 2’s put on a performance taught by one of the Kaiako and there was lots of dancing, singing and celebrating taking place at our centre. We also invited the parents to stick around at drop off for a hot drink and some yummy treats. It was such a great atmosphere having everyone in such high spirits, spending time together.
We love to incorporate and celebrate lots of different cultural experiences at our centre and we have a lovely diverse group of Kaiako and Tamariki that make this possible.
