February is buzzing with excitement here at BestStart Dannemora as we dive into a month filled with cultural celebrations, learning, and community engagement. It's a time when we come together to appreciate the richness of diversity and embrace the beauty of different cultures.

Dressing our tamariki in traditional kakahu (clothing), we learned to bring the spirit of Waitangi Day alive with joy and understanding. We explored and appreciated the beauty of the unique partnership between the Māori and Pākehā people that was forged on this historic day. We signed our class treaty together and learned the value of participation, partnership, and protection.

We've also been preparing for the Chinese New Year. Our community came together to celebrate the festival. Our parents and whanau have volunteered their time to share their expertise, whether it's through professional dance performances or leading engaging activities for our tamariki.

Through learning from these traditions, crafting traditional decorations, and trying delicious traditional food - our tamariki have been actively participating in the cultural learning journey and building up a sense of respect and understanding towards others. At BestStart Dannemora, we believe in the power of community and the importance of coming together to celebrate differences. We create a nurturing environment where every child feels valued and respected.
