Through books, art, and storytelling, tamariki are discovering the joy of literacy and expressing themselves in creative and meaningful ways.
At our centre, we have been providing exciting and enriching experiences where our tamariki (children) can explore literacy in creative and engaging ways. One of the key areas of focus has been incorporating books and the arts into their daily learning.
Through these experiences, tamariki have had the opportunity to dive into the world of stories, illustrations, and creative expression — all of which contribute to their understanding of language.
These activities not only nurture a love for reading and storytelling but also help refine essential skills, such as fine motor development. Tamariki are learning the correct techniques for holding writing tools, which is vital for their future writing skills.
These hands-on experiences with books and art allow children to practise their dexterity and hand-eye coordination while they draw, paint, and create. Additionally, these activities support the development of both verbal and non-verbal communication.
Tamariki are encouraged to express themselves through speech, gestures, and art, helping them build a deeper understanding of language in its many forms. Whether it’s through storytelling or creating their own illustrations, the exploration of literacy through books and the arts is a wonderful way for tamariki to grow and express themselves in a meaningful way.
