Exploring Our Local Neighbourhood
This month at BestStart Flat Bush, we embarked on an exciting adventure to explore the neighbourhood with a short walk. The children's faces lit up with excitement as they strolled down the road, brimming with curiosity about their surroundings while diligently following road safety guidelines.
Our tamariki, along with our supportive whānau, learned about the area's rich history. We visited the Old Flat Bush School building and read about its history on the board outside. The children were fascinated by the building and went on to explore the beautiful natural space nearby.
On our return to the centre, we made a stop at the local grocery store, which turned out to be a thrilling experience for our tamariki. They enthusiastically explored the vibrant array of fruits and vegetables, eagerly identifying them in both English and their home languages. This experience significantly enhanced their understanding of healthy eating.
Back at the centre, our tamariki reflected on their walk and shared their observations. When recalling their favourite moments at the grocery store, they confidently named the fruits and vegetables they encountered. When asked why it’s important to eat them, they all chimed in, “We will be strong and healthy!”
