Expressing ourselves in a safe, caring environment is such an important skill to be able to not only learn how to do but also to be encouraged to be expressed by your kaiako.
Here at BestStart Paraparaumu social and emotional resilience is a very important part of our centre priority.
The kaiako work closely alongside one another, parents and whānau to make sure that we are all working together supporting aspirations and setting the tamariki on the right path to develop their own ability on how to manage their emotions. This is encouraged through our everyday curriculum through art, physical activity, quiet space, korero with our peers and kaiako, books, puppets, song and dance just to name a few.
Kaiako have been working together to understand the stages of emotions to be able to support tamariki to de-escalate themselves before they get into a heightened state. This is supported by truly knowing our tamariki as individuals and knowing their cues of when is a good time to offer different types of support for them.
This could be from sitting close by, just giving verbal reassurance, providing resources, offering physical reassurance or what ever else the child may require. You will see here in the centre that the kaiako are great at role modelling different types of strategies to support social and emotional resilience.
