At Best Remuera, our Set for school program is designed to prepare children for their transition to school through engaging and educational activities. Recently, the children participated in a project where they created caterpillars and learned about their life cycles. This hands-on activity not only stimulated their creativity but also enriched their understanding of natural science concepts alongside their peers.

The experience aligns with the Exploration/Mana Aotūroa and Communication/Mana Reo strands of "Te Whāriki", as it encourages children to explore the world around them and communicate their ideas effectively. The children engaged in discussions about the stages of a caterpillar's lifecycle, fostering their curiosity and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, our Be School Ready programme integrates literacy and numeracy activities, such as recognizing letters connected to the lifecycle stages and counting segments on the caterpillar, contributing to their academic preparedness.

These fun activities ensure that children develop essential skills for school, such as fine motor skills through arts and crafts, and social competence through collaborative projects. The holistic approach to learning at BestStart Remuera supports the children’s overall wellbeing, emotional regulation, and sense of belonging, preparing them for a smooth and confident transition to school, as envisioned in "Te Whāriki".
