Intergrating Cultural Diversity
Our teachers thoughtfully integrate cultural diversity into the daily curriculum. Activities are designed to reflect the diverse backgrounds of our children. As part of our commitment to celebrating our cultural diversity we celebrated Heritage Day with our families recently.
Our Team of teachers speak languages from a diverse background. This supports children's emotional well-being, making them feel seen, understood, and comfortable in the learning environment. Teachers who speak the language of families can build stronger relationships with parents and caregivers, improving communication about the child’s development and helping to integrate family involvement into the learning process.
The team at Petone reached out to our parents and asked them to share their cultural dress with us. Reesha a staff members child, performed a Bharatanatyam an Indian classical dance. She was amazing and had the audience fascinated and in awe at her skill. Our pre-schoolers performed a tradition poi dance. The array of different languages shared was truly remarkable as will took in turns to sing and share our gift. The teacher’s skill encourages multilingual learners to make connections between new English terms and words or concepts they already know thus support language acquisition.
BestStart Petone cultural diversity promotes a more global perspective from an early age, preparing children to succeed in an increasingly multicultural world. To end our festive day we had a South African braai.
