From pink towers to brown stairs, our tamariki are developing sharp eyes and steady hands through Montessori sensorial activities!
These carefully designed materials help children refine their senses, build concentration, and gain confidence through exploration.
The brown stairs, part of the sensorial shelf, focus on visual discrimination of size and dimension. Tamariki carefully build the steps from thickest to thinnest, learning to compare, judge, and self-correct. This hands-on experience strengthens not only their coordination but also their ability to notice subtle differences in the world around them.
As part of our centre priority on Social and Emotional development, this activity also creates a peaceful and joyful learning experience. Tamariki show pride when they complete the challenge, and with the control of error built into the material, they gain independence and confidence without needing adult correction. This supports their emotional wellbeing as they learn to trust in their own abilities.
Working calmly and with focus, the brown stairs encourage a sense of peace in the classroom. Tamariki often share their discoveries or celebrate each other’s success, building warm and positive relationships with their hoa and kaiako. 🌿✨
Through repeated practice, tamariki not only improve their spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and logical thinking, but they also grow socially and emotionally - taking pride in their mahi, enjoying their learning journey, and building strong connections within our Montessori community.
