At BestStart Pinnacles, we believe that physical education isn’t just about burning energy—it’s also a powerful tool for intentional teaching and development
This week, our kaiako set up an exciting obstacle course in our outdoor area, and the tamariki couldn’t wait to dive in!
From jumping with two feet between colourful hoops to carefully balancing across planks set on tyres, the course was designed to challenge and grow a wide range of physical and social skills. Children walked across bridge steps, tested their bravery jumping onto stepping stones of different heights and sizes, and learned to navigate uneven terrain—all while having a blast!
While the obstacle course looked like pure fun (and it definitely was!), it also helped our tamariki develop crucial gross motor skills like balance, coordination, strength, and spatial awareness. Even more importantly, it supported their social and emotional learning—children practiced patience, turn-taking, and cheering on their friends as they waited for their turn. This experience also created a sense of accomplishment and confidence, as each child overcame different parts of the course at their own pace.
For some, it was the thrill of the big jump; for others, it was finding their balance on the wobbly bridge. We love seeing their resilience and determination shine through! Activities like these are all part of our intentional teaching approach, where purposeful play supports lifelong learning.
At BestStart Pinnacles, every leap, wobble, and giggle is a step toward confident, capable learners—ready to take on the world, one jump at a time!
