Learning Provocations at South Road!

At BestStart South Road, we are using learning provocations in our environment as a thoughtful and conscious way to expand on our learning. Each term our Kaiako reflect on the aspirations of our tamariki and whanau, and come together to choose a project for the term that is focused on the interests shown by our tamariki, and is driven by our learning priorities.

Our environment and our learning priorities go hand in hand as our children learn.

Our learning priorities are

  • He Kōrero - strengthening verbal and non-verbal communication skills through serve and return interactions
  • Manaakitanga - fostering friendships and interactions to promote positive social behaviours
  • Whanaungatanga - reciprocal relationships through being involved in curriculum experiences.

Our environment is set up to enhance interests and to prompt questions, and our tamariki learn during experiences because they engage directly with their environment, which allows them to explore, experiment, and make connections in real time. Using our environment as the third teacher acts as a silent guide, providing cues and challenges that prompt children to think critically, make choices, and reflect on their experiences together.

We see their wonderment and excitement and love capturing this learning, and having it showcased in our centre!
