At our centre, we believe every child’s voice is important, and every voice begins with the language of home at the heart of learning. This value can be heard in the gentle buzz of our centre each day.
Look around and you will see it too. On our walls, words like “Mālō” (Samoan hello) and “Haere rā” (Māori goodbye) sit alongside “Good morning”. These are more than decorations; they are a promise that every family’s way of speaking is honoured here.
When we explore ideas, such as volcanoes, we do not only use English names. We learn the stories and words different cultures use, including celebrations like Matariki, the Māori New Year. This tells children their knowledge is welcomed and helps them feel a strong sense of belonging.
Language is more than words. It carries love, comfort, and identity. When tamariki hear their home language in our space, they feel safe, respected, and ready to learn, supporting a confident sense of who they are.
Our goal is for every family to see a reflection of their culture within our centre. By celebrating the languages of our community, we help children build connections and lay foundations of kindness, curiosity, and respect. Thank you for sharing your languages, stories, and tamariki with us.
